Veteran assists Oshana police with car parts

ONGWEDIVA – The Oshana police earlier this week received spare car parts worth N$13 000 from a war veteran.

The handover ceremony took place at the Oshana police headquarters. The donated items included seven batteries and other car parts needed to fix five police cars with minor damages and services overdue and were handed over to Oshana police regional commander, Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria.

Plan combatant and veteran of the liberation struggle Mathias ‘Commander Shiti-Shombe’ Johannes said he contacted the headquarters to find out if he could help in the servicing and repairs of the police’s broken cars.

“I wanted to assist our security forces in curbing criminal activities, especially during the upcoming festive season,” he said.

“This is our security service, and they are there for us. I gave this gift to the police so that they can be mobile and fight and prevent crime.”

Johannes pleaded with the business community and veterans to assist the government in any way they could.

According to Sakaria, the donation came at the right time as the police are preparing for the upcoming festive season operations.

“The help is not just for the police but for the community; if the community is safe, the town will receive investments,” said Sakaria.

He said the vehicles will be back on the road for police patrol and visibility during the festive season and beyond.
