Music has always been their favourite topic every time they found each other at the same spot, as they had great admiration for it. The four members of W-GVNG, pronounced (W-gang), have been manifesting the culture of hip hop in the Namibian entertainment industry.
Having been in existence for eight years now since 2015, the crew said they only received recognition in 2019 when they had their own studio set-up and started to properly record music. “Being an upcoming artist in a country where the type of music you make is not widely recognised has its downside, especially because we come from a little town called Arandis. But as the years went by, the genre started to grow, and this has led to a journey of great things,” said one of the members, Ndiriraro Karomuini, popularly known as Nmk.
They band said their family and friends have been highly supportive of their music. “I remember that feeling when we dropped our first few tracks, my favourite being ‘Chaining Day’. How everyone reacted to it motivated us to even go bigger, and that’s until our 20 freestyle was dropped. It took everyone by surprise, and instantly it was a hit. It was loved all over the hip hop community,” expressed Karomuini.
The love and the fans are still growing as the crew plans to take their music to the top and reach the pinnacle of success.
“W-GVNG is on the brink of success; it’s just a matter of time,” said one of the members.
They would do freestyles whenever they were free as part of their repertoire, which was part of the reasons they also started their musical journey. They look up to international role models such as Nasty C, Areece, Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, Notorious B.I.G , Shouldbeyuang and many more. They joyful squad said they draw inspiration from these artists, which has helped mould them in their journey.
The music group remains focused and true to their aim, which has not changed since the beginning. This is to take the music industry by storm, and become the biggest group to make it. They have expanded to a brand known as 4rmda, and surprisingly, this brand was loved and even won over celebrities such as Waters and South African Youttuber Seemah.
The group comprises Nmk; Joseph Kamati, also known as Weni292; Romeo Kalimba, known as Xenn; and lastly Davan Guirirab, known as DGG.
