Video Cassettes as Career Guidance for Teachers & Learners

Home Archived Video Cassettes as Career Guidance for Teachers & Learners

By William Mbangula OSHAKATI The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) here is to launch a career video as part of the efforts to present learners with the chance to find out more about diverse career prospects, job opportunities, bursaries, loans and study opportunities. Part of the video was already on display at the recently concluded Oshana Career Fair at Valombola Vocational Training Institute. MIB Information Officer, Mulisa Simiyasa, told New Era that the video cassette would be run in series. The first part, which will be completed soon, includes various professional opportunities such as Engineering, Veterinary Services, Dentistry, Forestry, Medicine, Radiography, Geology, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Banking. Such video cassettes will be given to various schools in the region for use by career-guidance teachers and learners. Said Simiyasa: “The idea is not only to display career information but also to show what it means to take a profession and what it can do. It is not sufficient to just understand the profession in terms of reward but also to make it resourceful and provide personal integrity.” Simiyasa noted that although the MIB is participating in the career fair at Valombola for the first time, its role is not only to display its services to the community but also to supplement and amplify the services being provided by other stakeholders in the career development campaign. In the next three weeks, said Simiyasa, the video-cassette would be completed. Such an item was supposed to have been launched earlier but was delayed due to technical hiccups. He explained: “We are proud of this product because it is something made by Namibians and it involves the local people of various backgrounds and professions talking about diverse career opportunities.”
