Visigoth, Leeuloop shine at August Rush horse race

Racehorses Visigoth and Leeuloop won the main races at the August Rush horse racing competition in Okahandja on Saturday. The 1 800m Open was the main race for both Thoroughbred and Nambred horses at the event organised by Khomas Racing Club.

Visigoth from Aminuis was followed by seasonal horse Starlile in second place, while Bold Vision was third in the Thoroughbred category. Okahandja Racing’s Leeuloop scooped the first spot in the Nambred category, Uaraa Tjiho’s Freedom Fighter came second while Chase Me took the third spot.

Starlile and Freedom Fighter have been dominant in the main races at several competitions since last year. Among other races, Satin Rock emerged victorious in the 1 600m Thoroughbred horses’ race while Rockley Beach and Kings Kitten took second and third places respectively.

Leeuloop ended seasonal horse Von Trotha’s dominance in the 1 000m Nambred horses’ race when it took first place followed by Von Trotha in second place and Freedom Fighter coming third. In the Thoroughbred D-Division 1 600m, Cowgirl In The Sand came first whereas Warm Peg and Thomas Jefferson respectively took the second and third spots.

Okakueuva won the 1 000m of the Nambred Maiden category followed by Silver Son in second place and Novel Dream in third. Earlier on, Okahandja-based horse Starlile emerged victorious in the 1 000m of the Thoroughbred category with the champion Visigoth coming second followed by Rockley Beach.

Miss Macnamara won the 1 000m D-Division Nambred category, Uaraa Tjiho’s Try Again took the second spot and Waterloo came third. In the Thoroughbred Maiden 1 600m. Flames Are Flying scooped the first spot while Here Is The Master came second and Chief Many Feathers took third spot.

Got Your Back came first in the 1 600m run of the Thoroughbred category followed by Anina and Rockhampton Rocket in second and third places respectively. In an interview with Nampa, Visigoth trainer Mbaroro Katjiuanjo said preparation was a key factor for their horse’s success at the event.

“We worked hard, Starlile got a challenger and our victory at the Otjinene July handicap motivated us to do this level. We will continue to give tough competition and our horse now reached the level we wished for,” Katjiuanjo said. 

The other horse of day was Okahandja Racing’s Leeuloop after triumphing in both the 1 000m and 1 800m sprints of Nambred horses while Visigoth got the same award in the Thoroughbred category. Nampa
