Vliete, Richter chase golden boot … WSL title ambitions intensify

Mighty Gunners Ladies striker Fiola Vliete and Windhoek City’s Charlotte Richter are sharing the lead spot in the 2025 FNB Women’s Super League as matches head into Rounds 6 and 7.

Vliete, who finished runner-up in last season’s scoring charts, is determined to reclaim the top striker’s crown she previously won during the 2022/2023 campaign.

The prolific forward says her renewed push for the award is rooted in discipline and extra effort beyond regular team sessions. “I need to put in extra work and train hard on my own even after training. I want to reclaim my top spot,” she said, emphasising her commitment to sharpening her finishing and maintaining consistency throughout the season.

Her impressive form has not gone unnoticed, as she has also earned a place in the national training squad preparing for the upcoming COSAFA Women’s Championship set to take place in South Africa, an opportunity she hopes will further elevate her game and confidence.

Meanwhile, Richter is equally determined to maintain her scoring momentum while chasing league glory with Windhoek City. The forward expressed her ambition to lift the league title this season, although she revealed she will miss national team duty due to a knee injury sustained during league action.

“I want to keep my scoring in line and help my team win the league. Unfortunately, I will not be part of the national team now because of my injury. Right now, football is my focus. I have been playing for over eight years, and I was only 17 when I first got called up to the WSL,” she explained. Trailing the leading duo in the scoring charts are FC Ongos Ladies striker Ivonne Kooper with four goals, while Mighty Gunners’ Leena Alweendo has netted three, keeping the competition tight as the season progresses.
