PLESSIS PLAAS – As part of the Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF)’s strategic plan, 42 referees are attending a Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) referee development course at Swakopmund in the Erongo region.
It will run for two weeks, and is an initiative in line with the NVF’s strategic goals for technical capacity development.
Speaking at the commencement of the course, NVF president Hilary Dux Imbuwa said the FIVB referee development course marks a significant milestone in the journey of volleyball officiating excellence within Namibia and across the globe.
“I am excited to see diverse and enthusiastic groups of individuals gathered here, eager to enhance their skills and contribute to the growth and development of volleyball officiating,” he noted.
Imbuwa said Namibia currently doesn’t have qualified international referees, and this course will provide room for that.
“Your presence here signifies the commitment to professionalism, integrity and dedication to sport we all hold dear,” he added.
Imbuwa further urged the attendees to approach the course with passion, discipline and a thirst for knowledge.
“Your dedication to excellence will not only elevate your own capabilities, but also contribute to the overall advancement of volleyball officiating in the country and beyond,” observed the official.
On her part, NVF’s referees’ coordinator Dina Kasheeta told New Era Sports that the course is a development course, and at the same time a refresher course for the FIVB National Certificate holders.
“This course will help develop referees at grassroots level, which is good for the development of volleyball,” stated Kasheeta, adding that the course for international referees is slated for Morocco later this year. The course is conducted by Walled Abdelsamad, who possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience in officiating volleyball.
The trainees will engage in rigorous training sessions, practical exercises and insightful discussions aimed at refining officiating skills and deepening an understanding of the rules and regulations of the game. Out of 42 referees attending the course, 12 are female.
