War veteran Chisozu accorded military funeral

President Netumbo Nandi Ndaitwah has accorded a military funeral to Lieutenant Colonel Office Chisozu. Chisozu, a retired war veteran and liberation struggle hero, died  on 20 October 2025, at Katima Mulilo Hospital at the age of 90 years. 

According to a statement from the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, he is expected to be buried on Saturday at Kamenga Shrine in Singalamwe village in the Zambezi region. This will be preceded by a memorial service on Friday at Singalamwe sport field.

During the liberation struggle in 1968, Chisozu fled Namibia through the Kamenga border into Zambia, where he first settled at Mayukwayukwa Refugee Camp before later relocating to
Maheba Refugee Camp.

After joining Swapo in 1972, he received military training in Russia, specialising in infantry operations. Upon his return to Zambia, he was deployed to PLAN’s Kaunga Mashi military
base under the command of the late General Dimo Hamaambo.

In 1985, he was appointed as a Logistician at Nyango camp. For his dedication and service, he was awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel and a commendation medal by former president Hifikepunye Pohamba in 2007. Lieutenant Colonel Office Chisozu is survived by his wife, five children, 11 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
