Kanjimi Munango, 22, a resident of Shadikongoro village, yesterday appeared in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder.

The resident of Shadikongoro is also charged with obstructing or defeating the course of justice after he allegedly shot dead his girlfriend and dumped her body into the Kavango River.

Munango, a watchman at Ndinoveshi bar in Mukwe Constituency, allegedly shot and dumped his girlfriend in the river on Saturday.
Munango was denied bail for fear he would interfere with police investigations.

The murder trial was postponed to August 12 and it was referred to the Mukwe Periodical Court that sits once a week each month.

The horrific incident, the latest in the unceasing spate of gender-based violence, happened on Saturday at around 23h00.

It is alleged, he murdered his girlfriend after she found him cheating with another woman at his place. After killing her, he dragged her body and discarded it in the Kavango River.

Magistrate Esmee Molefe presided over the case while Albert Titus appeared for the State.

Police have been searching for the body since then but they still have not located any remains. “The body is yet to be found, our members are still searching the river to possibly recover the body,” said the Police Detective Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo of the police in Kavango East
The deceased has been identified as Mahunga Agnes (22).
Police investigations continue.
