Water levels increase in key dams

KEETMANSHOOP – Recent rainfall has significantly contributed to the increase in water levels in key dams across the country for the first week of March.

NamWater’s head of public relations and corporate communications, Lot Ndamanomhata in a statement on Tuesday, said the Swakoppoort Dam has experienced an inflow of 0.870 million cubic metres (Mm3), increasing its level to 34.9% of full capacity – a noticeable improvement from last week’s 33.5%.

The water level in the Omatjenne Dam has risen to 4.4% compared to 2.8% recorded last week.

Ndamanomhata said Von Bach Dam’s capacity rose to 28.7% from 27.3% last week while the Omatako Dam in the Otjozondjupa region recorded an increased water level to 28.5% capacity from 24.8%.

The positive changes in water levels, he said, reflect the ongoing benefits of rainfall in the past days, providing hope for continued improvements in the water supply as the country enters the next phase of its wet season.

“NamWater remains committed to closely monitoring these key water resources and ensuring the steady supply of water to communities.

We encourage the public to continue their efforts in water conservation to help maintain sustainable water levels throughout the year,” he concluded.
