Otjinene team manager Brix Kahuure has credited discipline, commitment, and early preparation for their dominant performance at the recently concluded VRK All-Stars tournament held in Windhoek.
Hosted by the Namibia Rural Sports Development Federation at Khomasdal Stadium, Otjinene clinched both the football and netball titles, asserting their dominance across the board.
Speaking to New Era Sports, Kahuure praised the team’s dedication and the impact of experienced players, notably former African Stars duo Ratanda Mbazuvara and Katuso Kariazu.
“Discipline was our foundation. We don’t tolerate indiscipline, and that has helped us to progress. The inclusion of Mbazuvara and Kariazu brought the correct leadership and stability to the team, especially for the younger players,” said Kahuure.
He emphasized the team’s focus is on nurturing young talent from football academies, including standout Zondunge Kariazu, who also plays in the HopSol League. “We try to guide our players away from drugs and alcohol, and we take this seriously,” he added.
Otjinene’s netball team, mostly composed of players from the constituency, was also impressive and defeated strong teams like Epukiro and Okondjatu.
Despite their success , Kahuure said the teams lacked sponsorship and even had to borrow playing gear. “Otjinene is too big to struggle for sports equipment. We hope the local business community will step in,” he urged.
In the finals, Otjinene beat Okavezemba 4-3 on penalties in football, while the netball team won 30-28 against Epukiro. The football team earned N$15 000 and gold medals, while the netball side took home N$5 000 and 12 gold medals.
