‘We took the team back to the community’- Kambanda

‘We took the team back to the community’- Kambanda

OHAMBO JATATE – Former Debmarine Premier League outfit Life Fighters FC is producing stellar performance in the Northern Stream First Division League (NSFDL) as it remains unbeaten in the league this current season.
The Otjiwarongo-based team, following its relegation from the country’s elite league last season, is now topping the NSFDL league with 22 points from 10 games, won six, and drew four.
New Era Sports desk caught up with the team manager Kala Kambanda, who shared some success stories behind the team’s current league form.
Kambanda said following the resignation of the previous management, Life Fighters went back to the community and re-organised.
“New leadership was selected openly and transparently, which was something that brought confidence in the supporters and the community at large,” said Kambanda.
He highlighted that the team also kept most of their old players and added a few, which is a mixture of experience and youth.
“We are happy. The team is in the hands of the community, and the community is helping us a lot. We always have supporters at our games either home or away,” he said.
The manager added that the preseason friendlies helped the team to scout new players.
“These were very helpful initiatives indeed, as we managed to acquire three players from neighbouring places such as Kalkveld, Outjo, and Omaruru,” the manager said.
Another motivating factor to the team, Kambanda said, is that the team management is awarding bonuses to the players, which is a morale booster.
“We are happy that the results are coming, and the inclusion of former players like Oscar Tjikurunda as an assistant coach is helping the team to prosper this far. They inspire the youngsters to do well,” he said.
Life Fighters will play a derby match against another former premier league outfit Okakarara Young Warriors at Okakarara Sports Stadium on Saturday at 16h00.
Kambanda, therefore, urged supporters to flock to the stadium and rally behind the team in their plight to return to the premier league.
“This is one of the big matches, we both played premier league football, relegated together, and we are both from Otjozondjupa region,” he said.
