Weekend rugby promises action galore

Home Sports Weekend rugby promises action galore

WINDHOEK – It’s back to action in the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) Premiership as Reho Falcon take to the field in their first match of the new season in a weekend that will see no less than four potentially thrilling encounters.

A scintillating clash can be expected when Wanderers take on United at the Wanderers Stadium. Wanderers will go into the encounter boosted by last weekend’s 27-0 victory over Kudus and will be expected to deliver the same tenacity in their attack when they confront an equally determined United.

With the league still in its opening phase, a possible victory for either side would be a major boon since both teams will be eager to make an impression with the aim of scooping the silverware come end of this season.

In other action, reigning champions Western Suburbs are at home in a vital clash against Unam at  Suburbs Park. Suburbs are expected to accord Kudus an inhospitable welcome, as a win for the defending champions will be a morale booster considering they lost their first match against rivals Rehoboth. On the other hand, Unam will equally be aiming for a victory after putting up a splendid performance last weekend that saw the students beat Polytech by a resounding  57-21.

Meanwhile, Reho Falcon take on Polytech in another exciting clash at the Poly Stadium. Local rugby fans will be out to witness what Falcon has in store in this new season, following their somewhat lukewarm performance last season, which saw them finish in 6th position.  Polytech, who lost their opening fixture against fellow students Unam in last weekend’s action, will be expected to jack up their act and show some guts if they are to be serious title contenders this season.

At the coast, Walvis Bay confront Dolphins in another exciting clash where no favours will be asked or given when the two coastal outfits lock horns.
