Welwitschia University and Side by Side Early Intervention Centre on Monday signed an agreement to provide practical training and placement opportunities for Bachelor of Social Work students at Welwitschia University.
Welwitschia University will provide theoretical instructions ,while Side by Side Early Intervention Centre will host practical placements.
This way, students will gain on-the-job training under the supervision of qualified fieldwork supervisors.
The supervisors will mentor students and oversee their progress, ensuring they have the highest standards of ethics and professionalism.
The agreement was signed by acting vice chancellor of Welwitschia University, Marius Hedimbi, and managing director of Side by Side Early Intervention Centre, Huibrecht van Wyk.
The agreement establishes a collaborative framework that will enhance students’ professional skills and prepare them for the workforce, contributing positively to the community.
“This partnership with Side by Side is a significant step in our commitment to providing our students with the best possible education. By combining our academic rigour with Side by Side’s practical expertise, we are ensuring that our graduates are well-equipped to make a real difference in the lives of those they serve,” Hedimbi said.
Van Wyk expressed excitement to partner with Welwitschia University to provide students with hands-on experience in a supportive and challenging environment.
“This collaboration will not only benefit the students but also enhance the services provided to the community.
“The anticipated outcome of this partnership is the successful completion of the programme and subsequent Council registration for students, enabling them to be pre-qualified social workers in Namibia,” he said.
Side by Side Early Intervention Centre is a dedicated, registered non-profit organisation.
It provides comprehensive early intervention services and support for early intervention and pre-primary education for children with disabilities as well as families.
