Whale Rock Cement (trading as Cheetah Cement) and the Mineworkers Union of Namibia (MUN) have reached a new wage agreement for the 2025 and 2026 financial years.
The agreement signed on 12 December 2025 aligns with the Recognition and Procedural Agreement between the two parties.
Under the agreement, all employees in the bargaining unit will receive a 6% increase in basic salary for 2025.
This increase will be backdated to June 2025. Workers will receive back pay covering the period from June 2025 to the date of signing, 12 December 2025. The salary adjustment and back pay will be paid on or before 31 December 2025.
In 2026, employees will receive a further 4% increase in basic salary, effective May 2026. In total, workers will receive a 10% wage increase over the two years. The wage agreement covers the period from June 2025 to 30 April 2027.
The next wage negotiations are expected to take place in 2027. “The union’s demands for a review of the housing allowance and the payment of a performance bonus were postponed. Whale Rock Cement said it is currently facing financial challenges and cannot meet these demands at this time. Both parties agreed to review these benefits again in April 2026,” stated Tabby Moyo, spokesperson for Whale Rock Cement, in a media statement.
Whale Rock Cement management and MUN representatives said the agreement was reached through good-faith negotiations, cooperation, and mutual respect.
“Subsequent to the conclusion and signing of this agreement, on signing hereof, both parties undertake to withdraw any disputes registered at the Office of the Labour Commissioner born from the wage negotiations of 2025,” said Moyo.
