OPUWO – The 21 Motorised Infantry Brigade, responsible for defending the central areas of Namibia, will host its first annual edition of a football, netball, and volleyball tournament at the Khomasdal Stadium in Windhoek this weekend.

According to the tournament organiser, Gift Simasiku Njenjema, the event will be organised to give back to the community.

“We plan to continue this tournament in the years to come. This is one of our ways of giving back to the community,” he said.

Njenjema told Nampa on Wednesday that the event is co-hosted to create a platform for community engagement, foster a sense of unity, and provide entertainment through sports development.

He further mentioned that there are restrictions on team participation, as the event will be open to all teams across the country.

An amount of N$60 000 has been allocated for all three categories, with football receiving the largest portion of N$35 000, netball sharing N$10 000, and volleyball receiving N$11 000. Eighteen football teams have already registered, with the registration fee set at N$1 700. The netball category will secure their spots with N.dollars 900, while volleyball teams will register with N$800.

The football champions will receive N$20 000, 23 gold medals, and a trophy, the runner-up will earn N$10 000 and silver medals, while the third-placed team will be awarded N$5 000.

The winning team in the netball category will take home N$6 000, 18 gold medals, and a trophy, while the final loser will receive N$3 000 and the third-placed team will get N.dollars 1 000. The volleyball champions will pocket N$7 000, 18 gold medals, and a trophy, while the final-loser will earn N$3 000 and the third-placed team will receive N$1 000.

For stall and vendor registration, traders must register with N$500, while the gate fees for attendance are set at N$20 for adults and N$10 for children.
