Windhoek Pedal Power Race Series this weekend

The highly anticipated second round of the 2026 Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power Race Series (WPP) will take place this weekend.

The event will be split into the WPP Individual Time Trial on 17 January and the WPP Road Race on 18 January.

More than 200 cyclists are expected to compete to earn points that will contribute to their overall leaderboard standings.

At the end of the six-part series, the cyclists with the highest points will earn top honours and be crowned as the series champions.

Globally, the cycling industry is experiencing robust growth, driven by rising health awareness and environmental concerns.

In 2022, approximately 36.5 million e-bikes were sold worldwide, and recent data suggests a sustained long-term rise, with overall cycling participation increasing by around 11% since 2019 in key markets. Namibia has contributed to this momentum, attracting more than 1000 participants to the coveted Nedbank Desert Dash.

The country has also hosted significant continental events, such as the Nedbank Namibian National Cross Country Olympic (XCO) UCI Championships, further cementing its growing influence in the global cycling community.

The series has long been a platform for both seasoned professionals and aspiring cyclists to test their endurance and skill.

The second race in the 2026 series promises an exhilarating route, competitive racing, and an atmosphere of sportsmanship that underscores the event’s growing popularity.

Stefanus Feris from the Windhoek Pedal Power Road Cycling Club, organisers of the series, expressed his appreciation for Nedbank’s unwavering support.

“Partnerships like the one we share with Nedbank are vital to the success and sustainability of cycling in our country. The bank’s commitment goes beyond sponsorship; it is about creating opportunities for athletes and enthusiasts to thrive. Together, we are building a strong foundation for the future of Namibian cycling,” said Feris.

Speaking ahead of the race, Nedbank Namibia’s chief commercial officer, JG van Graan, emphasised the bank’s dedication to supporting sports that unite communities and encourage active living. “As we step into 2026, Nedbank reflects on an incredible year for cycling, highlighted by the success of the 2025 Dash in December, which once again showcased the resilience and passion of riders from across the globe,” he said.

“Building on that momentum, we are excited to support the series this year, reinforcing our commitment to growing the sport and creating opportunities for every Namibian to get involved. Cycling is not only about competition; it’s about lifestyle, health, and sustainability. For those looking to start their cycling journey, Nedbank offers tailored financial solutions, including bicycle loans, to make owning a bike more accessible. We believe that by combining world-class events with practical support, we can inspire more Namibians to embrace cycling and enjoy its many benefits,” he added.

The races will start at 07h00 on both days. Cyclists are encouraged to register at www.nam-events.com.

The series will continue as follows: WPP3:25 January at Dobra Loops, WPP4:22 March at Matchless, WPP5: 26 April at Carin Park, WPP6 on 16 to 17 May at Kupferberg and Airport Highway (Route 2).
