Windhoek set for explosive redemption fights

The MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy will host an electrifying night of boxing this Saturday at the Windhoek Country Club, as local stars prepare to reclaim continental glory in the WBO Africa Title Redemption Fights.

Three of Namibia’s top boxers, Matheus Heita, Harry Simon Jr, and Paulinus Ndjolonimus, will headline the international event, each stepping into the ring against a formidable opponent. Heita will face Clement Loko in the WBO Africa Featherweight fight, Ndjolonimus will battle Snamiso Ntuli for the WBO Africa Super Middleweight fight, and Simon Jr will go toe-to-toe with Jeremiah Mhere for the international welterweight fight.

Simon Jr expressed gratitude to his promoter and coaches for their continued support. He said he’s eager to make a strong return after a challenging year.

“I’d like to thank my promoter, Tobias, for bringing me back to the team and making this fight possible. It’s always disappointing when an opponent doesn’t show up, but we are preparing for bigger things. I’ve been training hard with my coaches, Se SBK Kaperu and Nicky Natangue. It hasn’t been an easy year, but we learn and grow. On Saturday, I’ll show everyone the best of Simon Jr,” he said.

Ndjolonimus also thanked his coaches for their role in shaping local talent.

“Thank you to the coaches for taking us off the streets and keeping us focused. I respect my opponent, and if he is here for war, I’m prepared for war too. I won’t say what will happen on Saturday, you’ll see it for yourself,” he said.

Meanwhile, Heita, who recently fought in the United States and who will headline this weekend’s activities, said he’s eager to reclaim his WBO Africa featherweight title.

“Preparations have been going well. This is a redemption fight, and I’m ready to get my title back. People judge you by your last performance, but I went abroad to gain experience. On Saturday night, I’ll prove myself again,” he said.

Heita last fought American Bruce Carrington three months ago, losing by unanimous decision in a WBC Interim Featherweight bout.  -lmupetami@nepc.com.na
