WINDHOEK – After the first successful Bank Windhoek Long Course swimming gala held in Tsumeb earlier this month, the gala now moves over to the capital this weekend for the rest of the long course season.
One hundred and twelve (112) swimmers with a total of 822 splashes have entered for the three-day event, to be staged at the Western Suburbs swimming pool in Khomasdal starting on Friday.
This weekend’s gala serves as a building phase for the likes of Zanrè Oberholzer, Toni Roth, Sonja Adelaar and Daniela Lindemeier. The quartet will participate in the World Short Course Championships in Doha, Qatar early in December, as well as the African Union Sports – Region 5 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe on December 09, next year.
Upcoming young swimmers led by Carissa Esslinger, Heleni Stergiadis, Corne Le Roux, Ronan Wantenaar, Zune Weber and Rene Viljoen will also be in action at this gala, which promises to produce some good swims with a lot of personal bests. Swimmers will be chasing down Levels 1, 2 and 3 qualifying times for South African swimming galas.
