WINDHOEK Imke Rust, who recently won the Standard Bank Namibia Biennale for the second time, is the recipient of the prestigious “Stipend of the Bremer Buergerschaft 2006”, it was announced in a press release. The Namibian artist, who has been invited to stay in Bremen, will be away from March until May as a guest of the Buergerschaft Kunststipendium. Rust will be involved in a joint arts exhibition project whilst in Germany. Sabine Erlenwein, director of the Goethe Centre/NaDS, is the patron of this project. The exhibition will form the central focus of a larger cultural programme in Bremen planned around the theme “Namibia”. The Bremer ÃÆ’Æ‘Æ‘ÃÆ’…ÀÃ…berseemuseum, which is busy redesigning their African Exhibition, have confirmed their participation in this programme, which will include films about Namibia as well as lectures. During the three months that Imke Rust will be in Bremen, she hopes to explore the art scene in Bremen, meet artists and curators, establish contacts and gain new experiences that will improve her work. On her return, she hopes to be able to share her experiences, inspiration and knowledge with her fellow artists. She will lecture on Namibian art at the Hermann-Boese-Gymnasium.
