ONAMUTAYI – A woman was arrested for allegedly assaulting a 31-year-old woman with an unknown object on the back of her head in an altercation about the ownership of N$120 at Omuthiya in the Oshikoto region on Friday.
Namibian Police’s acting regional commander, Deputy Commissioner James Nandapo, told Nampa on Sunday that the incident occurred at around 23h00, and a case of attempted murder was opened against the 28-year-old suspect.
Nandapo said that the victim and the suspect are friends, and they live together at the suspect’s place of work.
“They were at home in the suspect’s sleeping room, busy dressing up for outings. The process, an argument erupted between them about the money, which was an amount of N$120 that was allegedly on the table, and both of them claimed its ownership that caused them to start fighting,” he added.
Nandapo said the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim with an unknown object, and she sustained serious injuries.
“They were only two of them in the room during the incident and a passerby heard the victim screaming for help,” he said.
Nandapo added that the witness went inside the room and found the victim laying in a pool of blood, and thereafter brought the victim to the police station.
“The victim was rushed to Omuthiya District Hospital by the police as she was unconscious upon arrival at the hospital, and was immediately transferred to Onandjokwe State Hospital due to a big open wound on the back of her head,” he stated.
The suspect has been arrested, and will appear before the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court today.
