RUNDU – The Rundu Magistrate’s Court yesterday denied bail to Maria Namutenya Neromba (48), who appeared before Rundu magistrate George Matali, on a charge of attempted murder.

Neromba allegedly poured hot cooking oil on her husband while he was asleep.

The police in the Kavango West region arrested Neromba on Tuesday after a case was opened against her by her husband Kapumburu Jacob Katanga (48).

The police could not reveal to New Era why the woman decided to burn her husband, however, such information is expected to be revealed in court during the bail hearing and trial.

Neromba’s case was remanded to 04 September 2025 for further investigations. The State objected to bail due to the seriousness of the offence.

Public prosecutor Variety Matamata represented the State in the matter.

The victim and accused are residents of Mayara village in the area of Nkurenkuru.
