ONGWEDIVA – Police in Oshikoto Region are investigating a case in which a 19-year-old woman is alleged to have been raped before she was murdered in Tsumeb on Sunday at an unknown time.

It is allegedthe incident happened at address 552 Omupopo Street in Omashaka location.
According to the police, the 19-year-old Fredrika Magritha Gam Gaebes was a resident at Erf 512 in Soweto location of the same town.
Police Deputy Commissioner Willem Peter of the Oshikoto Regional Police Force said a suspect was detained for interrogation while a second detainee was taken in as an accomplice for attempting to obstruct the course of justice.
“A second person is also arrested as an accomplice by trying to defeat the course of justice during the process of preliminary investigation by the police,” said Peter.
The police are appealing to the community to assist the police with information when needed instead of collaborating with criminals.
“This will help the police and our magistrates’ courts to successfully bring and prosecute those who are disturbing the peace and or committing various crimes against people, the economy and educational development of our region,” said the deputy commissioner.
He said the Oshikoto police would ensure that everyone who is found working together with the criminals be prosecuted.
Still in Oshikoto, the police are appealing to the public to assist in tracing a driver who is alleged to have bumped a 25-year-old man about two kilometres from Omuthiya. His next of kin were not yet informed. The incident took place at Ekulo village on Saturday.

At the same time, the police are also calling upon drivers within the region to adhere to road rules and regulations.
“It should be remembered by all drivers that it is a serious offence for a driver to fail to stop at the scene of a motor vehicle accident. This offence is prosecutable and punishable by law,” said Peter.
Another culpable homicide case was reported to have occurred on the Oshivelo-Tsumeb B1 road when the driver of a Toyota double cab en route from Tsumeb to Oshivelo lost control of the vehicle.
“It is alleged that the left rear tyre burst and the driver lost control over the vehicle and overturned,” said Peter.
One of the passengers, Kapulu Kalorine Ndeshipewa Peliyavali, 26, died on the spot while the driver, a police sergeant, and his three passengers sustained serious injuries. The injured were rushed to the Tsumeb hospital for treatment.
