ONGWEDIVA – A 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped on Saturday around 23h00 on her way home in Oshakati’s Onawa location.
It is alleged the victim was on her way home from Evululuko location when a male suspect decided to escort her.
According to the Oshana police spokesperson, Thomas Aiyambo, when the victim was about to reach her house, she told the suspect to go back.
“The suspect grabbed the victim and ordered her to remove her clothes so that he could have sex with her. The suspect threatened to kill the victim with a knife. The victim undressed and the suspect had sexual intercourse with the victim without her consent,” said Aiyambo.
Aiyambo added the victim is in contact with the investigators, and that the victim is familiar with the suspect but she does not know his name.
Aiyambo cautioned children from walking alone to school and urged all employees going to work at night to walk in groups and avoid taking dark paths.
“Avoid taking shortcuts, especially where there are shrubs or riverbeds to avoid such incidents. Take normal paths where many people are walking. It is important for all women to have the police emergency number on speed dial so they can contact the police immediately,” said Aiyambo.
