RUNDU – A 50-year-old woman was fatally struck by lightning while working in her field last week Thursday outside Rundu.

The woman is the third victim to be struck by lightning in a span of less than a month in the two Kavango regions.

The police mortuary services were called to the scene to collect her lifeless body.

“It was reported that the deceased was part of a group of six people who were working in a mahangu field when the incident happened,” said the police in a report.

“The next of kin were informed, while the body is being kept at the Rundu state mortuary pending an autopsy,” the police noted.

Over a week ago, a similar incident was reported in Kavango West, where 44-year-old Johanna Kasiku Mbilisu from Kwaki village in the Mpungu constituency died after being struck by lightning while bathing in her makeshift bathroom.

The tragic incident was reported to have happened at about 04h30.

Last month, a similar incident occurred in Kavango West when lightning struck and took the life of a grade 9 learner of the Ntara Combined School.

The pupil was walking to school then, and was identified as Phillip Kazana Siranda, aged 21.

He was residing at Muveve village, Kavango West, and was walking towards Ntara village.
