Women’s U/20 squad announced

Young Gladiators’ coach, Errol Damaseb, has unveiled his final 23-player squad for the upcoming Fifa U/20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Congo Brazzaville.

The first leg is scheduled to take place on 8 October 2023 at the Brazzaville Stade-Alphonse Massamba Debat, with a kick-off time set for 15h30. The return leg is scheduled for 13 October 2023 at the same venue and kick-off time.

Damaseb said the squad has been carefully selected to balance the experienced players with new, promising talent.

“The plan remains the same: to get positive results throughout the qualifiers and advance to the tournament,” he said.

Talent in the goalkeeping department consists of Sarafina Khuruses, Hilde Tjiueza, and Iilonga Teolindus.

The defensive line has Aune Andreas, Onondjamo Kaetjavi, Okeri-Hitjitevi Haakuria, Talitha Aubes, Utuzuvira Kahiriri, Prisca Amuntale, and Frieda Kenda. Captain Anna-Ida Somses is in the midfield, along with Brenda Tjozongoro, Kristofina Benyameni, Mclee Tsuses, Charlotte Richter, and Aochamus Michelle.

Leading the attack are Albertina Fillipus, Elsabe Reinecke, Leena Alweendo, Chaselinne Jossop, Jekohasanna Kamatjipose, Michane Vries, and Memory Nandova.

The captain, Somses, said the Young Gladiators will look to make history in their quest for the prestigious tournament and bring glory to Namibian women’s football. “We are excited to take on Congo Brazzaville, showcase our talents and create positive results from both matches,” she stated.
