WINDHOEK– A 21-year-old author, Ella Mwaala, who recently published her first poetry compilation tilted Whispers of the sands is appealing for the nation to sponsor her financially to launch the book in Henties Bay early next year.
According to Mwaala the book is supposed to be launched this Friday at the Coast but due to lack of sponsorship she have to postpone it to next year. She says her compilation consists of various poems of love, violence and poverty. The title of her new book has been inspired by the Namib Desert and the coastal dunes. “The idea of writing the anthology came when I met Kennedy Madhombiro, the owner of the UK-based Diaspora Publishers. Madhombiro saw the potential in me and what I usually write on Facebook and he said to me ‘I think you are a good writer and you can put it to a good use.” I wrote a few poems and he was amazed. He gave me a green light to publish my book and my dreams are now coming true,” Mwaala explains.
The books arrived last month from United Kingdom (UK) and are now available for sale at Antonio’s Art and the National Art Gallery of Namibia (NAGN). “I would like to thank Diaspora Publisher, my mentor Knowledge Ipinge and everybody who believes in me. After high school life was not easy for me and I thank God for this initiative He has given me,” says Mwaala. Mwaala hails from the coastal town of Henties Bay in the Erongo region and attended her primary education at Kamwandi Junior Secondary School and later went to the Swakopmund Secondary School for higher education.
