Several matches were played in the popular FNB School League at the Katutura Youth Complex last weekend.
Qualifications for the finals took place among the sixteen best schools from Oshana, Karas, Erongo and Khomas regions, which participated in regional play-offs.

More than 150 boys and girls participated in school teams of the u/10, u/12 and u/14 age groups. Each school team consisted of four boys and four girls competing in the “Play & Stay” tennis format. This format has softer and bigger tennis balls as well as lower nets. Matches are played on smaller courts, which teach players tactics and technique at an early age.

Players received individual trophies in their age groups and the best schools were rewarded in the team competition. Players received a FNB certificate, a big sun hat and an energy drink.

The FNB Primary School League is an excellent platform for young players to start competitive tennis. The best players are selected for the FNB development programme.

If they show consistent effort and motivation they may qualify for the elite squad of tennis development players being coached on a daily basis by highly qualified NTA tennis coaches at the Eros Tennis Performance Centre.
During the prize-giving ceremony Sam Kaulinge, president of the Namibian Tennis Association (NTA) thanked FNB for the N$500 000 sponsorship of the NTA tennis development effort over the last three-year period.

Ingrid Goeieman, manager sponsorships of FNB and secretary of the FNB foundation, thanked all the students, teachers and parents who participated and supported the school league throughout the year.

Any primary schools in Namibia, interested in either the FNB school league 2016 or FNB development tourneys 2016, should contact the NTA tennis development coordinator Kallie Heese for further information (kalietenis@gmail.com).
