Young women leaders converge in Capital

Windhoek

Following the fruitful three years of existence, the annual National Young Women’s Day has been scheduled for this Saturday at the Wanderers Club under the theme Girls’ leadership, making a difference.

The event bringing together young women from across the country aims to host about 100 Grade 11 Senior Representative Councils(SRC)’s members who will be head/prefect girls in 2016 at different schools. The objectives of the occasion is to cover many topics related to young women with hopes of engaging the young girl leaders’ hearts and minds to learn to experience more joy, peace and more contentment, steer towards self-acceptance, self-confidence and grow through personal experience. “We anticipate for it to be once again a great success this year dealing with young leaders. We expect to host 100 young girls plus a team of volunteers. We contacted 32 Windhoek high schools and they all showed great interest,” says the brainchild behind the initiative, Angela Katjimune.

The day will start with a five kilometres walk then followed by a motivational talk by Isabella !Hurihe //Hauses from Cutting Edge Excellence Mountain Top Greatness. Besides the discussions, there will be activities such as poems reading, choir/worship performances and a competition. “It’s a tough thing to be a leader and we want the kids to know this and that’s how the walk came about. The route they will be walking will be inspiring; they will know the different aspects of being a leader. We all have a purpose in life, it’s a choice, I want no one to ever give up because it’s not how you start but where you end up,” says Katjimune.

Breakfast and refreshments will be served and then the girls will have time to network and exchange ideas with their peers. Organisers also promise a small token to appreciate their participation. Last year the event saw 400 young ladies with a desire to fight their current circumstances and more than 50 volunteers and spectators in attendance.

The National Young Women’s Day has been running for the past three years with support from various individuals, partners and corporate companies. Registration to participate in the walk will start at 06h00, the walk at 07h00, and the motivation talk at 09h 00 followed by breakfast and networking session. The organisers are encouraging attendees to dress comfortably in sportswear and shoes for the different activities lined up. The Wanderers Club is located in Tunschel Street in Pioneers Park.
