KATIMA MULILO – The Zambezi region recorded high coverage during the recent round of the nationwide polio vaccination campaign, with almost all targeted children successfully reached.

More than 42 000 children have been vaccinated against polio, the health ministry said.

In an interview with the information ministry, health ministry spokesperson Walters Kamaya stated that a total of 42 478 children in the region were vaccinated, demonstrating strong cooperation from parents and caregivers.

However, Kamaya noted that reaching some communities in Zambezi remains a challenge due to flooded and inaccessible roads, which affected access to hard-to-reach areas.

He urged parents and guardians to remain alert by following updates from the ministry’s information centre and encouraged those who may have missed the first round to ensure their children are vaccinated.

Kamaya further called on caregivers to fully participate in the second round of the polio vaccination campaign scheduled from 24 to 27 February 2026 to ensure complete protection of children.
