NAKABOLELWA- Farmers in Zambezi region joined the rest of Namibia in remembering late Founding President Sam Nujoma, who died on 8 February at the age of 95.
One such farmer, George Kasale from Ivilivinzi village, who is Swapo district coordinator for Kabbe South, described Nujoma as a freedom fighter.
“I remember the Founding President as a freedom fighter who fought to liberate this country from the brutal hands of boers. The whole Namibia is covered with a dark cloud. We lost an icon. My condolences to the family,” he consoled.
Another farmer from Kabulabula, Rene Mundia, said Nujoma fought for Namibia’s independence.
“He led the nation to peace. I wish him a good journey to meet his Maker in heaven,” Mundia said.
The headman for Kabulabula area, Benadickt Kasale, said Namibia lost an icon who liberated the country from the colonial yoke.
“He brought national reconciliation. He always said we should protect the territorial integrity of Namibia. He wanted to see every Namibian free,” the headman remembered.
Kasale added that Nujoma had love for education.
“When we got independence, Namibia had no university but he established the University of Namibia. May the bereaved families be comforted. Everyone has lost a hero. The whole Namibia has lost. Africa and the whole world has lost a great man,” he said.
As is the tradition in mourning an icon of Nujoma’s magnitude, the region has, since Friday, also opened a book of condolences in memory of the late founding president, with Zambezi governor Lawrence Sampofu being among the mourners who signed it.
