KATIMA MULILO – Well-known Zambezi region public figure, storyteller and historian, Francis Mabuku Sinvula, also known as ‘Ba Mars’, died on Thursday.
He was 67.
Sinvula’s death was confirmed by his nephew Neo Mutonga, who described his demise as a very big loss, not only to the Sinvula family, but also to the entire region, and country at large.
He said the Zambezi region is mourning his death.
“He was a very good teacher, a formidable historian and a living library in the dynamics of our region’s culture and politics. He was a man of great wisdom who would tell history without fear and favour – a man who knew the family trees of most families in the Zambezi and across the border to our neighbouring countries,” Mutonga said.
He added that his late uncle will be missed by many not just because of his jovial personality, but also because of his larger-than-life thoughts.
Sinvula is survived by his wife Alphonsina and three children.
Funeral arrangements are underway, and all indications are that he will be laid to rest at his home village of Ikumwe in the Katima Rural Constituency.
