The Namibian Police in the Erongo Region last Saturday arrested six illegal immigrants at Walvis Bay in connection with an alleged murder committed last week at the costal town.

Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator for Erongo, Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa, said the six suspects are Zimbabweans and they were expected to appear yesterday in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder.

The men are being held in connection with the death of 32-year-old Frans Simaneka Mateus, who was killed a week ago in Tutaleni, Walvis Bay.

His body was discovered by police officers who were on patrol. A brick stained with blood was found next to his body.

According to Kashuupulwa, Matheus was at a shebeen in Tutaleni with friends that fateful Saturday evening before he decided to take a taxi home.

One of his friends allegedly gave him taxi fare to pay for the taxi but he struggled to get a taxi as it was late and he decided to walk home.

It is believed he was attacked and hit with the brick on the head and also robbed of his wallet and cellphone.

In another incident the police have also arrested two suspects in connection with a hit-and-run that occurred between Karibib and Omaruru, after  the body of a 57-year-old man was found next to the national road.

According to Kashuupulwa the deceased was identified as Alfred Tjikusere, a resident of Otjimbingwe.

She said his body was discovered by traffic officers during their patrol on Thursday morning.

“Police investigations indicated that the deceased was bumped by a truck that was later traced back to the suspects by the police. One of the suspects is a driver for Blaauw Transport,” she told New Era.

According to Kashuupulwa, the truck driver denied being involved in the hit-and-run and led the police to a 19-year-old suspect, who was allegedly driving the truck at the time of the incident.

The duo will appear tomorrow in the Omaruru Magistrate’s Court.
