Zinc processing factory opens in Katima

Home National Zinc processing factory opens in Katima

Katima Mulilo

About 20 youths in Zambezi have found employment at a zinc factory officially inaugurated last Friday by Katima Mulilo Mayor Charles Matengu.

Matengu noted the business comes at an opportune time when Katima Mulilo is experiencing booming infrastructure development but severe unemployment, particularly among the youth.

“We welcome these types of investments. I am told the factory will employ 20 people. This means 20 of our youths have been removed from the streets, as unemployment is a challenge in our town. We expect the number of employed people to increase as the factory expands,” stated Matengu.

He added that the manufacturing of zinc sheets will see residents benefiting from affordable prices offered by the factory.

“It’s a bonus for our residents as these materials are very affordable and available right here in town, while the quality will also be quite good,” Matengu said.

The factory set up on the western outskirts of Katima Mulilo is the first of its kind in the town and manufactures corrugated zinc sheets in a variety of colours as well as lip channels. It belongs to a Chinese investor Guo Yunhai of ABC Investment.
