The lifeless and naked corpse of a 19 year-old woman was found lying in a footpath at Grootfontein on Friday.
It is suspected the deceased, Rosalia Ukumes, was raped before she was murdered, because two used condoms were also found at the scene. Ukumes’ body was found lying in a footpath leading from Makalani location to Blikkiesdorp on Friday morning. Police investigators suspect she was raped and murdered on Thursday evening.
Otjozondjupa regional crime investigation coordinator Chief Inspector Naukalemo Andreas said the police suspect Ukumes was hit on the head with a stone, as there was a stone found next to her body. “The lady was coming from a place where she had been socialising and no one knows what happened thereafter, because [besides the perpetrator/s] nobody saw what happened,” Andreas said.
Andreas said one male person, who was last seen with the deceased has been arrested and police are currently busy interrogating the suspect. She said his name cannot be revealed at this stage as he is yet to be charged and arraigned before court.
Meanwhile, a 36-year-old man from Otjekondjo farm in Hochfeld, who slit his girlfriend’s throat on Saturday appeared in court yesterday. Prior to the incident the couple was engaged in a heated argument over the woman’s phone after the man saw an incoming sms that angered him.
Andreas said the man told the police that he drank 2 litres of “Owambo Liquor” (ombike) and four bottles of Black Label beer prior to committing the fatal crime. Andreas said the suspect, Samuel Simon, 36, was denied bail at his first court appearance. His case was postponed to December 9 for further police investigation.
