20-year-old killed in road accident

RUNDU- A 20-year-old man was run over by a vehicle on Tuesday evening on the Trans-Zambezi Highway. Alpheus Sikongo died on the spot around 18:00, according to the police report by the Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton.

The accident took place at Mile 30 village, situated south of Rundu. His next of kin has been informed. The driver of the Volvo sedan was identified as Ruan Phillip Opperman, who resides in Katima Mulilo.

Police have opened a case of culpable homicide.

Police are investigating another case of culpable homicide after a 25-year-old man died as a result of serious injuries sustained when the vehicle he was travelling in collided with another vehicle on Monday around 17:00.

The deceased, Enok Mukonda, was a member of the Namibian police, and held the rank of constable. He died in the ambulance while being taken to hospital.

It is alleged that the Toyota Tazz that Mukonda was driving collided with an oncoming Toyota Condor that was transporting people on the Trans-Zambezi Highway at Mabushe village, about 70 kilometers east of Rundu. The deceased’s next of kin have been informed.
