Deputy higher education minister Natalia /Goagoses celebrated a milestone at the Kayec graduation ceremony in Windhoek, honouring the accomplishments of 90 trainees, including 26 trainees with hearing impairments.

“I celebrate each of the graduates here today, recognising the challenges they have overcome,” she said. The ceremony, held last week, marked a pivotal moment for these graduates, who persevered through diverse obstacles to attain their qualifications.

She also expressed gratitude to the late president Hage Geingob for his pivotal role in promoting inclusivity within Namibian society.

“No one should be left out if we are to achieve sustainable development in our country,” she emphasised.

Addressing the media’s role, particularly calling out the public broadcaster NBC, /Goagoses urged for balanced and fair coverage of events beyond negative narratives.

“The media should focus on inspirational and positive stories that often go unreported,” she asserted. She highlighted the absence of media coverage at the graduation ceremony as a missed opportunity to showcase uplifting achievements, including those of special needs students pursuing higher education. -priscillamukokobi@gmail.com

“Now we witness these students receiving their qualifications without NBC’s presence. These stories are a testament to the inclusivity of our educational institutions, deserving of coverage. And these students have so many stories to tell,” she said.
