AN exciting 4th round of this year’s NMSF National Drags racing season took place recently at the Okahandja Airstrip just outside of Okahandja, which attracted a fiery turnout of ‘petrol heads’ to the competition.
The event was hosted by all the drags clubs in Namibia (Road Aces Windhoek – RAW, Okahandja Motor Club – OMC and Outlaw Motor Club – OLMC), who joined forces to host the remained of the 2013 season as a committee in order to foster camaraderie in motor sport and improve the landscape for the motoring enthusiast.
Racing on the day was fast and furious and totalled 128 races in five hours, with intense competition and ‘street grudge duels’ were settled in a safe and controlled environment.
The highlight for the day was the competition between the Turbo Stallion bakkie of Adam Mohamed and the monstrously powerful 300 ZX of Devon Farmer, the difference between the two was a minimal 0.02 seconds with Adam doing 12.725 seconds and Devon coming home in 12.749seconds.
They were all there, with a line-up of VW Golf’s, BMW’s, Audi’s, Ford’s you name it. Drag racing was divided into the various classes, with the biggest turnout in the 4-cylinder turbo category, whilst sparks flew in the five and six-cylinder classes.
The Husselmann clan also brought the action to the drag strip in the bike class with McAllen setting a blistering pace on his Suzuki GSXR 1000cc in a time of 10.03 seconds. Leonard Van Wyk was the fastest Banshee four-wheeler on the strip with 14.8 seconds.
The day was completed in a safe and friendly atmosphere with 600 spectators through the gate and 39 competitors over the finish line. The next event is held on 26 October in Okahandja.
