ONESI – The Uukolonkadhi Traditional Authority a week ago donated 600 bags of maize meal to needy households affected by the drought.
In response to President Hifikepunye Pohamba’s plea to all Namibians to assist drought victims, the chief of the Uukolonkadhi Traditional Authority Daniel Shooya and councillors of the Uukolonkadhi Traditional Authority donated 600 bags of maize meal to the needy. Headman of Otsika, Nestor Iipinge, told the people present at the handover of the donation that only five households from each village will benefit from the donation. Iipinge assured the beneficiaries that the donation does not exclude them from receiving drought relief food from the government.
Speaking at the occasion the Governor of the Omusati Region, Sofia Shaningwa, said those who carried out the last census in the Omusati Region should revisit the region, since the current statistics are not accurate and hamper planning in the region.
Shaningwa invited all business people to follow the good example set by the Uukolonkadhi Traditional Authority and to meet the government halfway in its current efforts to alleviate the suffering of people affected by the worst drought in decades. The drought is said to be affecting over 900 000 people.
