KEETMANSHOOP – Re-elected mayor of Keetmanshoop Moses Titus intends to retire in January to pursue his dream of farming on his newly acquired resettlement farm in the Köes district.
Titus who has been re-elected made it clear he will ‘call it a day’ come January and his last mission is to do all he can to change what he termed the ‘lax’ behaviour of municipal administrators. “That is the reason why I resigned from the Namibian Police in 2003 to farm and then they approached me for politics, but I will call it a day now. But the one thing that I still believe must be done is that the administration of this council must be revisited. The chaos that was reported in the media was all because of the weak administration. They are lax and must seriously be addressed,” he said.
Titus, who is a DTA councillor, was re-elected on Tuesday for the fourth consecutive term and is deputized by Gabriel Freyer, who is a Swapo Party councillor. Freyer was also re-elected in the same position. Willem Kotze of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), Margaret Snewe of Democratic Party of Namibia (DPN) and Elizabeth Isaaks also retained their seats.
Titus also thanked the opposition parties for their trust and faith in him, as well as for the support they pledged during the final stretch of his tenure in office. All nominations were uncontested, since no counter-nominations were made during the election in the Town Council Chamber yesterday. Magistrate Philanda Blockstein Christiaan presided over the proceedings and also admistered the oath of office for both the mayor and his deputy.
