…new offices for mayor and CEO
KATIMA MULILO – The Katima Mulilo Town Council plans to construct additional office space and to renovate existing offices in a bid to scale-up and improve service delivery.
This came to light at a recent site handover ceremony for the envisaged construction work and renovations. Mayor of Katima Mulilo Charles Matengu says the initiative is meant to fulfill the ideals contained in the council’s strategic plan and to improve customer service delivery. “This initiative came about through the strategic plan recently adopted by council through the blessings of the ministry of regional, local government, housing and rural development. Come 2014 council will be operating in new offices. We want this town to move. We are going to have state-of-the-art facilities,” Matengu promised. The additional office space is needed for the town’s chief executive officer and the mayor, while major works will be undertaken on parts of the existing office complex. The project will cost council over N$14 million, of which N$10 will come from the Ministry of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development. The Katima Mulilo Town Council has been facing an acute shortage of office space for the past several years.
Initially, there were plans to relocate the municipal office complex to a new site adjacent to the Zambezi Waterfront, but the plan was cancelled due to budgetary constraints. The contract for the work has been awarded to Kopano Projects and Management Services a local company, which has promised to complete the work in ten months. The company has already invested in multi-million dollar upmarket apartments in Katima Mulilo.
