WINDHOEK– Kickin it with the Kinks along with African Naturals brings you the ‘Natural Hair Debate’, which will be highlighting many issues and positive views on natural hair tomorrow at the Innovation Village.
The debate will consist of a self-funded documentary ‘Kickin it with the Kinks’ filmed in the United Kingdom (UK) by Cynthia Butare and will be exploring the complexities of hair and the issues among women of African descent faced with their afro textured hair and the perception of society. The debate will also include how history plays a role in today’s perception of hair/choices of hairstyles, what ‘identity’ means, and the dangers of chemical products, the notion of beauty, stereotypes, as well as the role of the media.
The owner of African Naturals, Zodidi Gaseb, who has successfully hosted three natural hair events in Namibia was approached by ‘Kickin it with the Kinks’ to host the documentary for the first time in Africa. “I feel much honoured to be the first because this will be an opportunity to get the people to start talking, and for society to accept natural hair as it is. It’s not an event to be missed as you will also get some tips and ideas on how to care for your natural hair,” says Gaseb. The panel will also consist of young, vibrant and powerful women such as Sharon Kasanda, Fenny Ndapewa Nyakanyete, Florence Floetry Khaxas, Oshosheni Hiveluah, Kaylan Sutton, and Gaseb who will be the moderator and host.
The event will not only show a documentary but promises a vibrant and interactive debate on the topics discussed. The debate is taking place at the Innovation Village on the corner of Gluck and Brahm Street in Windhoek West and will start from 10h00 until 12h00. Entrance is free. Limited space is available so Contact 0816356537 to book your space.
