THE heat was on during Saturday’s adrenaline pumping Radio Control Races, held at the SKW RC dirt track, when all four classes went flat out in the 10TH round of the RC race championships, with a field of over 22 brightly coloured entries spread over the classes, getting into high gear for the last stretch of the season.
Equipped with all the tools needed to finely tune these miniature machines, competitors dotingly tinkered and fiddled with their high tech engines between races, and once it was time to go, did you see these little monsters fly.
Manned from above by a line of serious guys in the control tower, button pushing took on a whole new meaning. Each vehicle was cleverly co-ordinated by remote, to not only stay on the track, but to fly over humps, screech around the bends at break-neck, motor full steam down the straights, and dice the hell out of their rivals.
Competition in the class categories was fierce which comprised the Monster Truck (Jnr), Monster Truck (Snr), Truggy’s and the Buggy class who completed the 20minute and 25minute race laps. A new Electric car class made its debut, with organisers hoping for this category to grow with more electric cars on the track in the future.
Due to previous water restriction, two races had to be cancelled this season, but the guys sure made up for it on Saturday. The final race for 2013 will be held on November, 30 with a prize giving in the afternoon followed by a “fare-well” braai.
