WINDHOEK – The far northeastern town of Katima Mulilo, the capital of the Zambezi region, is to play host to the inaugural edition of the annual Zambezi Sports Awards, to be staged in the LA Hall next month.

Deserving athletes who have attained outstanding achievements and contributed significantly towards the Zambezi Region and Namibian sports in general will be honoured for their excellence. The event is aimed at providing those sports personalities residing in the region, as well as registered sports codes in the region an ideal platform for recognition. The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) will comprise of staff from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and National Service in the region, including carefully selected members from the local community.

An independent panel of judges will take care of the proceedings and will also scrutinize all entries. Potential participants and affiliate sports organisations in the region attended a meeting in Katima Mulilo recently to receive information about the criteria and requirements for the awards. The affiliates have also been requested to nominate individuals in the respective categories before the end of this month. A gala dinner will be held during the evening of the awards slated for December 20 at 18h00 and only ticket holders will be allowed.
