WINDHOEK– The Swakopmunder Musikwoche (SM) is calling on musicians to participate in its 48th music event.
The SM is an annual music event taking place under the patronage of the German Evangelic-Lutheran Church. Every December music professionals are brought from national and international institutions to instruct and assist young and old musicians in Namibia. The event lasts ten days and culminates in a series of concerts offered to the public. Alexander Fokkens, a conductor from South Africa (SA) will again be the Musical Director, supported by the Choir Master, Hans-Jochen Stiefel. The Junior Orchestra this year will be conducted by Irene Schultz-Neumann from Germany, looking back at more than 30 years of experience with children and adolescent orchestras.
According to one of the event organisers, this year’s Musikwoche promises a lot of excitement and fantastic lecturers from all over the world. “We are looking forward to lecturers from Namibia, South Africa, Germany, Belgium and the United States of America, as well as a group of students from the University of Cape Town, who will support our participants in their quest for excellence. The students will also be practicing with smaller groups”, says Christiane Berker, the Organisational Director of the SM Team.
“Don’t miss the fun and make sure you get the most of the SM, either as a participant or as part of the audience. You can support us as friends of the Musikwoche because only with the support of everyone, we will be able to host a Musikwoche every year”, Christiane adds.
Participants can now register through the SM website www.musikwoche.com. or obtain registration forms at any one of the DELK Church Offices or send an email to info@musiwkoche.com to receive a form. Registration closes on November 17 and no late registrations will be accepted thereafter.
