…preparation for African Junior Championships
WINDHOEK – The Bank Windhoek long course swimming gala will continue this coming weekend at the Western Suburbs swimming pool in Windhoek.
A total of 133 swimmers have entered for this gala as this is the last long course gala for swimmers to qualify for the Bank Windhoek National Championships. Swimmers will therefore have to make sure that they have the necessary qualifying times and have therefore entered for a total of 641 splashes. Many of the top swimmers and record holders, such as Quinton Delie (open freestyle record holder), Zanre Oberholzer (open backstroke record holder) and Daniela Lindemeier (open breaststroke record holder) will be in action at the weekend. This gala will serve as a building phase for swimmers who will be participating in the African Junior Championships in Lusaka early next month. Seven of the eight swimmers who will participate at the African Junior Championships, Zanre Oberholzer, Toni Roth, Sonja Adelaar, Molina Smalley, Kaira Schatz, Nicolai Flemming and Alexander Skinner, will be in action this coming weekend and will use this gala as a platform for their mental and physical preparation.
Upcoming swimmers such as Heleni Stergiadis, Corne Le Roux, Ronan Wantenaar, Zune Weber and Rene Viljoen will also participate in the gala, in preparation for the national championships. Some good swims are expected with a lot of personal bests in the pipeline, as swimmers chase down level 1, level 2 and level 3 of the South African Meet qualifying times. The gala will start on Friday at 15h00 and continue until Saturday.
