WINDHOEK – Anthea Arnold, the 28-year old woman who stands accused of shooting her 52-year-old former German boyfriend Michael Breder two years ago, denied that she shot the deceased when her trial resumed in the Regional Court in Katutura yesterday.
Arnold is accused of shooting Breder in his car in Windhoek’s Southern Industrial Area on the night of May 15 2011. Reports at the time indicated that Arnold and Breder had been sitting in the car and that they got into an argument before she allegedly took his firearm and shot him to death.
Arnold’s bail was withdrawn when it was ordered that she should undergo a period of psychiatric observation. Her bail, in an amount of N$5 000, was reinstated, and has been extended to December 3 when the matter continues.
Dr Ndahambelela Mthoko, a State psychiatrist, informed the court last year that Arnold had been found fit to plead and stand trial. Mthoko found that Arnold was able to appreciate the wrongfulness of her alleged offence at the time it was committed, and that she was able to act in accordance with such an understanding of its wrongfulness.
Magistrate Sarel Jacobs presided. James Diederich is representing Arnold. The Public Prosecutor was Cliff Lutibezi.
