WINDHOEK – The All Namibia Netball Association (ANNA) is to hold a strategic meeting in Keetmanshoop later this month to deliberate on a new date for the postponed tri-nations netball tournament that was to be hosted last year.

ANNA vice-president Alvira Peterson confirmed to New Era Sport yesterday that the meeting is scheduled for October 24.

Peterson said the gathering would not only focus on the postponed tri-nations tourney, but would also be working on formulating a clear netball roadmap and to find ways and means to overcome the financial hurdles ANNA currently faces.

The meeting will be graced by the new netball commissioner Monica Bohitile, whom the ANNA top brass will brief on the current afflictions plaguing the association  as well as its future plans.

On the tri-nations Peterson elaborated: “It’s a very important tournament for Namibia. Singapore have shown their interest in wanting to join us and they are really eager to play in Namibia. Zimbabwe and Botswana have also shown their interest in partaking in this tournament. Zimbabwe and Botswana are both amongst African countries that are currently busy establishing and growing their netball fraternities, so it will also be a good opportunity for both these nations as well as host Namibia to rub shoulders with Singapore, which is one the best  netball playing nations in the world.”

The tournament was initially planned for last year but was later rescheduled to an unconfirmed date this year due to insufficient funds.

But Peterson assured that ANNA would do everything in its power to secure adequate funds to ensure that Namibia hosts the tournament before end of this year.
