WINDHOEK – A man who was allegedly robbed by five men at 01h00 a.m. yesterday morning, is now a murder suspect after he hit one of the robbers with a stone in the head.

Chief Inspector Pretunilla Kauna Shikwambi, who is the head of media relations of the Namibian Police, told the regular Sunday media briefing that yesterday at about 01h1 a.m. at the former singles quarters in Katutura, a man who was walking home was thrown with stones by five other men and was hit in the head. “The suspects’ motive was to rob the man of his belongings,” Shikwambi said. In self-defence, the man allegedly picked up a brick and threw it at the suspects, striking one of them, Rio Ngaringombe (18) in the head killing him instantly.

The other four fled the scene. The man was arrested for murder and is in the Katutura State Hospital, where he is being treated for head injuries. On Friday at about 11h00 on the Omuthiya/Ondangwa main road at the village of Onyati, a Toyota pickup truck and a sedan vehicle collided causing the sedan vehicle to burst into flames. Police investigations continue. Also, the police are urging anyone who is missing a relative to visit the Tsumeb Police Mortuary in order to identify the deceased. In Grootfontein on Saturday at 00h40 at the JP Club in Makalani location, Nikanor Kamaseb (23) died instantly after he was stabbed in the chest with a sharp object. The suspect is at large.
