RUNDU – The police in Rundu are trying to determine why a man killed himself on Saturday evening in his house at Tamanga village.

Detective Inspector Chrispin Mubebo of Nampol confirmed the incident, saying the deceased shot himself with a shotgun in the head. The deceased was identified as Alfred Shintango (30) and his next of kin have been notified of his death. Mubebo said the deceased left no suicide behind. In a separate incident, a 56-year-old lady drowned at Kayeura village, while she was attempting to cross the river. Selma Karupu’s body was recovered and transported to the Rundu State Hospital where a post-mortem will be conducted.

Meanwhile, Eveline de Klerk at Walvis Bay reports that one Elizabeth Tauros-Gawises died and four others were injured during a head-on collision between two pick-up trucks (bakkies) between Uis and Henties Bay, of which one is a government-owned vehicle. The accident occurred around 21h00 on Friday evening about 25 kilometres before Uis.

According to witnesses the government vehicle was allegedly in the wrong lane and that the bakkie in front of it tried to avoid a head-on collision with the government vehicle by swerving into another lane lane.  A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
