WINDHOEK – The leader of the ‘struggle kids’ Josua Joseph Shivute, has rejected claims of disorderliness in their camp, saying they “are like brothers and sisters.”
The claim of disorderliness came about after Paulus Mweshi Petrus, one of the so-called struggle kids currently camping in Windhoek, appeared in court for assaulting a female member of the group, allegedly for refusing to have sex with him. Shivute says the struggle kids “do not propose each other, nor are we married. We are like brothers and sisters.” Two weeks ago, New Era reported that Petrus assaulted Frieda Mokhana on July 31 by hitting her with fists in her face, chest and abdomen with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm at the Okahandja Park informal settlement in Windhoek where they are camping.
It was said at the time that Mokhana was beaten, because she refused to have sex with Petrus. This week Shivute said Mokhana was assaulted over a missing phone by Petrus who was apparently drunk. He further said they do not tolerate trouble, “if there is trouble, we call the police,” he added. Shivute also said he is the elected leader of the group, and succeeded their previous leader Abraham Ampembe following an election. He further advised the media to ask for membership cards from the struggle kids.
